Target Audience Research

To gather information about our target audience, we decided to play the song to as many people as possible, from all different age groups. We then asked them to fill out our own questionnaire, because this way the information we would collect would be relevent to us because we thought of the questions. We gave the questionnaire to 5 people each and we were able to gain data that is easy to organise. This was the questionnaire we created:

10-20             20-30             30-40             40-50             50-60             60+

What gender do you think the song is aimed at most?
Male              Female            Both male and female

From our questionnaire we established certain things. We concluded that our target audience - the people that were most interested in the song and this genre of music - are people aged 16 - 30. Also, from this questionnaire we  found that females generally liked the song more than males. From this finding, we decided that our target audience are mainly females.

Our music video links with the song because it displays a message of having bad luck with relationships and getting rejected. Through the focus of the main character, the audience can tell that people often get extremely down about similar situations. This age group may be able to relate to this the easiest because they are the ones who may be experiencing many relationships, some not ending well. This means that they are likely to have an experience of heartbreak and/or rejection. This indicates that they will be able to sympathise most with our main character in our video and be most interested in the lyrics. Another reason as to why our music video may be more relevant to this audience is because the music video has a slow and steady pace to it, whereas younger people may be more interested in music videos with a fast pace and a more upbeat tone e.g. dupstep. They may also be more attracted to a different type of genre such as pop music because they are more likely to sing about experiences that younger people can relate to.
