The narrative function can be to organise groups of events into a pattern of cause and effect. We see something happening and then given information about the effect. This allows the audience to see the consequence of action which occurs in the story. This way the audience feels that their expectations have been met. I can relate this to our music video because we see the scene of Shannon rejecting Ally's phone call and the scenes of the two characters together, then we see Ally visiting the same settings alone. Therefore we see the effect it has on the character.
The narrative function is also to organise time and space correctly. To make the compression of time invisible to the viewer is very important. If the narrative omitted significant events within a compressed time structure, the viewer would question the sense of the sequence. I can relate this to our music video because we filmed Ally's solo scenes over a matter of weeks, but we made sure he was wearing the same clothes. Therefore the viewers could not tell this was true and it looked like it was all in the same day.

The narrative of our music video follows the actions of our main character. To make our narrative clear we needed to fully emphasise the theme which is rejection and heartbreak. We made this clear all through our music video because of the scenes we displayed. Ally calling Shannon and her rejecting his call implies rejection in love,
also shots of them two together fading into shots of him makes it clear that he is now alone.
Ally singing with flashbacks of him and Shannon behind him shows heartbreak. All of this links with the lyrics of the song, of wanting to be loved.
